what remained

after arceus went missing

History

It all happened so long ago no one alive really recalls what actually happened. Common knowledge is something bad happened a long long time ago, and Arceus disappeared as a result. Along with this, mythical and legendary pokemon quickly went into hiding, unwilling to assume responsibility and fearful with their God missing in action.

Fed up with their continued selfishness Arceus spent the vast majority of It's power to wipe humanity off the face of the planet. This act caused It to fall into a deep slumber, as It sealed Itself away into a statuesque form. Arceus resides deep within Mount Coronet, sleeping, waiting...

With the passage of time, pokemon grew to replace human society in a way. Not quite caught up with us in advancement, where they are now has them equivalent to a sort of medieval times. Castles n such.

Present day

With legendary and mythical pokemon largely withdrawn, there are power imbalances everywhere. Without pokemon of such high power in many areas, unstable energy leads to the formation of peculiar labrynths referred to as "mystery dungeons." Pokemon that are unfortunate to wind up here quickly become disoriented and corrupted in a way, becoming violent to future intruders. The prevalence of these mystery dungeons has lead to the formation of The Guild (which really needs a more proper name tbd).

There are also various tribes, communities, and kingdoms that have popped up. Pokemon have not made the connection, but areas where mystery dungeons do not occur are generally due to a legendary pokemon being in hiding nearby. They are generally not seen, and commoners are not typically believed when reporting sightings. If there is a large gathering of pokemon living (relatively) peacefully in an area, it can be assumed something more powerful is lurking just out of sight.

The Guild

Run by a handful of Shaymin that never made a proper disappearance, The Guild is considered a safe haven and a last beacon of hope that Arceus may return someday. At this point, generations of Shaymin have passed and none actually knew Arceus Itself. They know an unusual statue in the depths of their base (Mount Coronet) brings a peaceful, comforting feeling but cannot place what it is. Any and all are welcome to join The Guild, it is not even required everyone perform work. There are plenty of working paws, fins, wings, etc. so that those more weary may rest. The primary work found at The Guild is the mission work to save unfortunate wanderers from mystery dungeons. Aside from these jobs, there is plenty to do here and all talents are welcome. The Shaymin don't necessarily run a tight ship, but rarely does anyone see fit to oppose the last remaining mythical pokemon still in public eye. They are kind and willing to help and bring about a sense of hope, and that seems to be enough.

The Kingdoms

To the east exists a couple of kingdoms. Some generations ago, a few pokemon saw themselves fit to be some sort of leader, and thus took control of large amounts of land and the pokemon that live on that land. These lands have yet to fall into chaotic mystery dungeon status, so commoners may chalk it up to their monarchy and submit as a result. While resources are not necessarily thin, the greed of those up top leads to fighting between the groups. There are whispers of unrest amongst the current generation of heirs...perhaps a change is in order.

And beyond?

I've only written about a small part of this world!! there is a vast expanse to be explored and played with, plenty of room for more groups to set up shop and do their thing. Legendary and mythical pokemon Are out there, but where? Surely they don't wear the same shapes they did all those generations ago, especially seeing as modern pokemon have taken on delta types, new colors, varying shapes, and so on.
